“For a
moment in time
Somewhere between
The heavens and earth
I'm frozen in time…”
Something in these
words really hit me today. Perhaps it is my constant complaint of
not having “a moment to spare.” How often are there moments that are
so profound, so special, so soul searching or finding, so
life-changing in our lives. The words quoted are from Josh Groban’s
lovely song,“When You Say You Love Me” but I believe they are
so reflective of those moments in our own lives where events happen,
decisions are made, and the course of our path as designed by our
Creator brings to pass what He wills for us.
As I thought about this, I realized how many moments in time we have
per day and how wasted so many are. The moments that can bring
change for good or bad, happiness or sadness are just that, moments,
but the change they bring may be long-lasting or eternal. Love,
loss, tragedy, accident, salvation and hope are all in these moments
of time. Think of some of them, the first times, those first moments
of memory, of childhood like Christmas or riding a bike and you
finally get it, your first childhood sweetheart, your first day of
school, your first realization that you are grown up. As an adult,
the first moments when you meet the one you love, that moment of
sight, of knowing, and then the moment of “I Do.” The moments of
marriage, of closeness, of being one. The moment of the knowledge of
pregnancy, of the first kick, of the moment of exhilaration on birth
day at first sight of your child, and that wonderful first baby
step. Wonderful moments in time held in our memories forever.
And then we remember the first time when we met Christ, those
moments of realization of His true person, of truth, of repentance,
of confession, of salvation, of hope, glory, freedom and eternal
life. The eternal moment when our heart was opened by Christ. What
joy, what love, what peace and those moments frozen in time that
will live with us forever.
But then I thought of those tragic moments that bring such change to
our lives like the news of illness, accident, the death of a loved
one, or war, or 9-11, in a moment, in an instant, the life-changing
path of our lives from one moment to the next is changed. I recalled
the Scripture, “but these two things shall
come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and
widowhood” [Isa. 47:9] and “do
not boast yourself of tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may
bring forth” [Prov. 27:1] and remembered those loved ones
and brethren we recently lost. It reminded me of the preciousness of
time and to make each moment count. It reminded me that the hairs on
our heads are all numbered and that each moment in time, our
appointed time, must be profitable. It reminded me of the time we
spend in unprofitable moments, wasting our time on things that do
not count either here or for eternity. It reminded me of the brevity
of those moments of life, as God has said, “Who
do not know of the morrow. For what is your life? For it is a vapor,
which appears for a little time, and then disappears
[James 4:14] and that only those things done for Christ will have
eternal value. It reminded me that business of our lives that is
often filled with wasted moments, wasted time on unprofitable or
self-centered things that wear us out and have no eternal value or
profit us here. It reminded me that all things come to pass, each
moment in time, for His glory and our good and to use them wisely.
What is our life? Is it to live for Christ? Are those moments that
we have each day with one another, with loved ones, children,
parents, a day, a moment in time that will raise us up between the
heavens and earth they are so special to us? Will they be those
moments in our memories that will live with us and feed us as long
as we have breath? Are we doing all that we can do to make special
moments of loving, caring, cherishing, comforting and giving to
those we love while we can?
In a moment, our lives can change, in a moment, a breath away, we or
our loved ones can be eternity. In a moment….just a moment….He will
come …. “In a moment, in the twinkling of
an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead
shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” [I Cor.
15:52] For our light affliction, which is for the moment, worketh
for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory .”
[2Cor. 4:17] Be encouraged to make each moment count.
They are all moments given to you by Him, each one specially,
ordained in eternity past, just for you. Be encouraged to use them
for His glory and for the good of your own soul and those He has
given to you. Live in the moment but make it count.
Soli Deo
Gloria.....
